Heat the olive oil in a thick-bottomed pot. Sauté the chopped onion until translucent.

Then add the chopped garlic, chili powder and ground beef. Continue sautéing and stirring, until the meat begins to brown.

Next, add the broth, drained tomatoes, cumin, Worcestershire sauce, herbs and sugar. Let simmer for 40 minutes, stirring the mixture to prevent clumps from forming.

Then, add the kidney beans (drained) and let cook another 15 minutes, or until the stew is thick.
