The green seasons starts in Andalusia
Table olive cooperatives and industries in Andalusia usually get underway with harvesting in September. However, this year we have started earlier. The verdeo campaign has been brought forward to the end of August with the harvesting of the gordal variety, followed by the manzanilla variety at the beginning of September in the plots with more mature fruit.
What is the reason for this advance? The olive sector points out that the ripening of the olives has been quite similar to last year, together with the decrease in stocks from the previous season, especially in the gordal variety.
Harvest estimates. This year’s forecast is for a total crop of 492,000 tons according to the second harvest estimate of Interaceituna (Table Olive Interprofessional Organization). It is estimated that 192,000 tons will be of the manzanilla fina variety and 25,000 tons of the gordal variety.
Quality production. The spring rains have been a key factor in the good forecasts for this 2024 season. They allow the fruit to be of high quality with an excellent pulp to stone ratio. At the same time, it helps to recover the olive trees for future seasons.
At the Goya Spain factory, during green seasons we receive olives until the end of October. After cooking, fermentation, selection and sizing, they will be ready for packaging next year.
We continue working to offer our consumers in the five continents the best table olives from Spain!
