Visita ayuntamiento de Alcalá
The mayor of Alcalá, Ana Isabel Jiménez visited our factory in Seville to find out about our lines of activity and facilities.

On 3 November we welcomed members of the Alcalá de Guadaíra Town Council, the municipality of Seville in which the Goya España facilities are located. Antonio Carrasco, our general manager showed the town mayor Ana Isabel Jiménez, along with the heads of Economy and Development, the projects and expansions we have carried out in our factory in the last three years.

After the visit to our “2 in 1” olive and olive oil packaging factory and with a detailed explanation by our quality manager, Antonio Martín, the management team of Goya España presented the new projects for the economic expansion of the factory.

Goya España, which has existed for almost 50 years has established itself as a benchmark for economic development in the municipality. This was highlighted by the mayor of Alcalá who pointed out that 80% of the staff are local and this contribution to direct employment generates synergies which benefit all local economic activity as a trailblazing company, which from its position in Alcalá de Guadaíra greatly influences the international market.

In this way, Goya España has become a competitive and innovative firm through the implementation of different R&D&i projects, and also collaborates with the tow through different projects of corporate social responsibility developed in conjunction with local associations.

Goya Puerto Rico ayuda afectados huracan

At Goya España we support the initiative of Goya Puerto Rico to distribute nutritious lunches and meals to over 3,000 peoples forced evacuate their homes due to Hurricane Fiona and rehouse in isolated shelters and communities.

The 15 municipalities where Goya is providing assistance are Cayey, Salinas, Comerío, Guánica, Guayanilla, Loíza, Utuado, Jayuya, Adjuntas, Hormigueros, San Germán, Yabucoa, Cabo Rojo, Lajas and Ponce.

As highlighted by Carlos A. Unanue, chairman of Goya Puerto Rico “we have coordinated this distribution with mayors, parishes and community representatives as they know first-hand where help is needed most”.

Over the course of the next week, two municipalities will be served every day with lunches or dinners for 400 people, including a nutritious GOYA Creole dish prepared by chef Juan Mora.

Here in Spain, we are proud of initiatives like this one and we hope that those affected by the hurricane receive the help they need so they can return to normality as soon as possible.

Concurso Fotografico Almazaras de la Subbetica

Goya España congratulates Almazaras de la Subbética for the 1st Photographic Competition “Olivar de la Subbética”, recently organised to coincide with the celebration of the European Day of Parks.

With a high level of participation, the jury had a really hard time choosing the winners: “The decision was difficult because all the participants submitted very good photographs”, said the organisers.

Thus, a view of the Subbética olive groves captured by Manuel Molina Serrano won first prize. This image, together with those of the 2nd and 3rd prize winners and the photograph submitted by Juan García Camacho, a member of the cooperative, are on display in the Almazaras de la Subbética shop in Carcabuey (Córdoba).

Congratulations to the winners and to Almazaras de la Subbética for carrying out initiatives such as this that highlight the beauty of the olive grove”.

The olive groves of Andalusia hold the essence and origin of our olive oils. Today we have a little history for you, as we look back at the origins of olive cultivation in Spain.

The olive has long been the tree most venerated by the peoples of the Mediterranean. Olive branches were used to crown the winners of sporting competitions and wars while it was also a symbol of peace, fame and wealth.

In Spain, the olive has its roots in the domination of the Mare Nostrum by the Phoenicians and the Greeks. By the 1st century BC, olive groves already occupied a large strip of southern Spain (Andalusia) and extended through the center of the peninsula and along Spain’s Mediterranean coast and into Portugal.

During the Roman Empire, the olive oil trade in Hispania extended across the western world. We know this from the remains of amphorae with the Bética mark used to transport oil on the great rivers of Europe like the Rhône, Rhine and Danube.

With the Arab invasion, the new settlers planted their own varieties of olive across the south of Spain, allowing them to increase the cultivated area and contributing to the Spanish language the words aceituna (olive) and aceite (oil). It is at this stage in the history of the olive, when in Al Andalus olive growing acquires more importance on the Iberian Peninsula than in other, traditional olive growing areas of the Mediterranean.

By the 15th century, the olive had reached America and extended through areas of Mexico, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Mexico.

Do you know what the purpose of the mill is? The almazaras or olive oil mills are located close to the olive groves, and this is where growers work to produce the best mono-variety oil. Once they obtain high quality extra virgin olive oils at the mill, they present small batches to international contests. The more international prizes they win, the higher the price the mill can obtain from their oils from packagers.

Once the packagers acquire these oils, they oversee the filtration, balancing and blending in coupages for packing and bringing to market. Traditionally, packagers are the ones responsible for exporting olive oil overseas.

Goya España packages olive oils produced using different varieties of olives grown in the south of Spain, specifically in the Subbética county, home to the most prized olive groves and mills in the world.

The company packages and markets 100% Spanish olive oils of exceptional quality and incomparable flavor and is recognized by the leading olive oil rankings as one of the Top 2 oil companies (World´s Best Olive Oil 2021) and among the top 5 most awarded olive oil companies in the world (WREVOO 2021).

Today, we package five different extra virgin olive oils (GOYA® Organics, Único, Robusto, Extra Virgin and Garlic) and two olive oils (GOYA® Puro and Light Flavor).
