The media of Puerto Rico have echoed the quality of Goya® olive oils, an aspect highly valued by consumers. This is contemplated by various announcements published last March in the newspapers El Vocero, El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora  in this country.

They highlight the quality of the raw material with which the Goya oils are produced from the origin and that is endorsed by different international awards and recognitions. Along with this announcement, Goya Puerto Rico has launched the spot “Goya Acclaimed Worldwide”. Because If it’s Goya … It has to be good!

Presentación Iberoleum

Goya® Spain has participated in the act of presentation of the IberOleum Guide. This act, which took place on March 17th in the Aove & Nuts Fair, was attended by Enrique García-Tenorio, Iberoleum taster and Luis Domingo Saenz from the part of Goya Spain.

Goya® Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oils have been recognized in the Top 15 of the best EVOOs in Spain according to the 3rd IberOleum Guide corresponding to the 2017-2018 campaign.

Thus, the GOYA® Organics Extra Virgin Olive Oil ranks 2nd place, with a total of 95.5 points. Likewise, GOYA® “Único” Extra Virgin Olive Oil, ranks thirteenth place with a total of 91.1 points.

In the third edition of IberOleum Guide held last February at Baeza, the organoleptic evaluations of more than 150 extra virgin olive oils from all over Spain submitted to the contest have been carried out. In this edition, a presentation system has been followed in room to the tasters of the olive oils one by one, guaranteeing the maximum concentration in the evaluation of the same with more reliable results.

Goya Spain will be present at Alimentaria 2018, international Food Fair, which will take place from April 16 to 19 in Barcelona. In Alimentaria 2018, Goya will add to the presentation of its products, the presence in the “Olive Oil Bar”, a space for the self-guided tasting of its premium extra virgin olive oils: Goya® Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil (in the slightly fruity category) and Goya® Unico Extra Virgin Olive Oil (in the fairly fruity category).

The “Olive Oil Bar” of Alimentaria 2018, has established itself as a space with flavor and variety, highly appreciated by national and international buyers, representatives of specialized distribution, retail, gastronomy or the Horeca channel, among many other professionals of the food interested in the world of EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil).

With varieties from the most known as the Picual, the Cornicabra or the Arbequina, to other less frequent ones like the Royal Changlot, Royal or Arróniz, the tasting space, located in the Mediterranean Foods zone, the “Olive Oil Bar” the good form of the national olive oil, with a growing offer in the Premium segment, which seeks to export more and connect with the best gastronomy.

  • With 2,961 M€ in sales, the region exported twice as much olive oil in 2017 as Italy (1,507 M€).
  • By provinces, Seville leads olive oil exports, with 1,382 M€ and a year-on-year growth of 13.2 percent (18.2 percent of the total).

Andalusia led national sales of agri-food products and beverages abroad in 2017, reaching 10,937 M€. This figure represents an increase in exports of 9,2 percent compared to 2016 and almost one in four euros exported by Spain (23,4 percent), according to data from Extenda, the Andalusian Agency for Foreign Promotion.

Of these exports, sales of olive oil are placed first, with 2,961 M€ (27,1 percent of the total), thus achieving a new record (with a growth of 16.8 percent over 2016), and doubling the export of olive oil from Italy in the same period (1,507 M€).

By provinces, Seville continues to lead sales abroad of olive oil, with a turnover of 1,382 M€ (47 percent of the Andalusian total), and a growth of 13,2 percent over 2016; followed by Córdoba, Málaga and Jaén.

Markets

The first Andalusian olive oil market in the world is still Italy, with one third of sales (34 percent of the total) and a turnover of 1,003 M€ in 2017.

Italy is followed by the United States (392 M€), Portugal (329 M€), France (244 M€) and the United Kingdom ( 134 M€), among others. Also, according to Extenda, among the top 20 markets, there have been notable growths in exports to Canada as well as emerging destinations for oil such as Russia and India.

Likewise, 45% of local consumers identify Goya, followed by Medalla, Café Yaucono, Arroz Rico, Ace, Econo and Coca-Cola as the brands that best represent Puerto Rico.

As confirms Michelle Pérez, president of the SME “given the importance of knowing the positioning of our brands, this year, the Association integrated 18 new categories of products and services to explore which are the most remembered brands, which our consumers consider as leading brands and what were their latest buying patterns in the selected categories. These data provide a good reference point prior to the hurricanes Irma and María, and it will be very interesting to see how it changes or is sustained in 2018. ”

According to the Study “Marcas que Marcan 2017″, the six main attributes that Puerto Rican consumers look for in a brand and whose ranking in the last 11 years Goya consecutively leads, are:

  • Experience – 38% want it to be a brand with a track record and experience.
  • Economy – 36% want it to be an economic brand.
  • Value – 30% seeks to provide you with more value for your money.
  • Service – 28% look for a good service.
  • Innovation – 28% want it to be an innovative brand.
